With our words we create. As we speak positive words of faith, light, goodness, kindness, love, patience, gentleness, and hope-or negative words of darkness, hatred, fear (Satan’s greatest tool), unkindness, intolerance, gossip, judgment, jealousy, despair, and discouragement-our tongues are producing life or death in our spiritual and physical world. What comes out of our mouth when we are under pressure, truly reveals what is in our hearts. In Matthew 15 Jesus told the crowd, “What truly defiles a person is what comes out of his mouth”. He later explained to Peter,” What comes out of your mouth reveals the core of your heart”. James 3 states, “The tongue is a small part of the body yet is carries great power”. Many of us do not really understand that the words we speak have the power to build up and bless or tear down and curse. By simply speaking positive words, we attract positive energy from our Lord’s spiritual realm of light. Many precious people have been cursed because somebody along the way spoke negatively to them, telling them they were dumb, fat, stupid, ugly, sick, lazy, and so on. Internalizing negative words, especially as a child, wounds the heart and creates bondage in lives. In other words, many believe the lies told them, instead of discovering the truth of who they really are in Christ….His valuable, accepted, beloved children. It takes time for Jesus’ blessing of love and His positive truth to undo the effects of negative words spoken into our spirit. Yet, because of Jesus love, we can transcend and rise above the negative words spoken, and experience healing for our wounded souls. As we begin to understand and grasp the power contained within our words, we must choose to purify our hearts, as we speak positive not negative words to ourselves and to others, because our words contain the authority to create life or death in ourselves and in others.
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they who indulge in it shall eat the fruit of it [for death or life]” (Proverbs 18:21).
