While walking this earth, Jesus the Son of Man was a total and complete human being. At the same time Jesus the Son of God was the total and complete expression of the Triune God! This Son of Humanity showed us by example how to live in a connected relationship with the Father. Jesus Himself went about doing good-relating, loving, teaching, and healing. Yet, at times, He pulled away from His family, friends, and followers to connect to His source-the Heavenly Father. In this intimate place of privacy, Jesus in His humanity had fellowship with His Father as the Spirit of His heart and mind was renewed. In contrast to Jesus’ example, because of our many cares and fears, when numerous, it is often hard for us to pull away from the overwhelming call of the world and get still before God, even when we are alone. As a result, our hearts are occupied with a variety of distractions that keep us from genuinely getting in touch with Jesus, our Liberator. Jesus longs for us to experientially grow in a relationship with Him; which will create freedom from being overwhelmed in our cares and fears. God longs to lift us up, and have a deep, meaningful, relationship that creates Oneness with Him. He desires for us to come away with Him, so we can become all He created us to be.
“But He Himself withdrew [in retirement] to the wilderness [desert] and prayed” (Luke 5:16).
