Psalm 127:1-2
Except the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it; except the Lord keeps the city, the watchman wakes but in vain. It is vain for you to rise up early, to take rest late, to eat the bread of [anxious] toil-for He gives [blessings] to His beloved in sleep.
There are many, even those who have a living faith in God, which has lost sleep because of anxiety, and worry. Yet, scripture tells us, “It is vain for you to rise up early, to take rest late, to eat the bread of [anxious] toil”. In other words, it doesn’t help the one worrying, nor does it help what is being worried about.
In fact, worrying creates more problems, because when our hearts are full of anxiety and worry it affects the way we make decisions. A choice made out of panic or dread usually creates more conflict and confusion. As the pattern of making choices out of fear and worry become established in our hearts and minds, we will simply follow fear not faith. Attempting to shape our future through our own anxious efforts and ideas, apart from the Lord’s WAY, is unproductive and futile.
The starting point of growing faith begins when there is “need” in our lives! When we realize that our worries, and needs cannot be achieved in and of ourselves, and we turn to “talking it out with the Lord” instead of fretting; this gives God an opportunity to prove Himself faithful to His Word! While we choose, without logical proof, to move toward trusting in God’s authenticity, goodness and unconditional love, the gift of faith will start growing in our hearts! As we continually learn to walk by faith experientially, our ability to make positive choices based on His leadings, wisdom and knowledge will eventually bring the blessing of respite and peace to our lives.
It is God’s will to give the blessing of peace to those who will attempt to believe by faith that He desires to replace our worries and anxiety with His rest!
